◊ St. Nicholas of Flüe, pray for us
Today is the feast day for Saint Nicholas of Flüe. One of his prayers is quoted in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 226, with reference to Mt 5:29-30; 16:24-26)
My Lord and my God, take from me everything that distances me from you.
My Lord and my God, give me everything that brings me closer to you.
My Lord and my God, detach me from myself to give my all to you.
◊ Saints Basil and Gregory of Naziazen, pray for us
How many people still pursue this?
Different men have different names, which they owe to their parents or to themselves, that is, to their own pursuits and achievements. But our great pursuit, the great name we wanted, was to be Christians, to be called Christians.
— A sermon by St. Gregory Nazianzen, “Two bodies, but a single spirit”, concerning his friendship with St. Basil
◊ Mary, Holy Mother of God, pray for us
I started this blog 10 years ago. Not as active as I used to be. Maybe that’ll change. Maybe not.
I turn fifty tomorrow. Half a century. Wow! Never thought too much about this mile marker. Forty was the one that bothered me the most.
Thank you, God. All is gift.
Although it’s a gray and overcast day, it is still beautiful.
I still have things to do, people to meet, and smiles to smile.
Keep hope alive…
◊ Saint Jerome, pray for us, pray for us
If you do not answer the noise and urgency of your gifts they will turn on you. Or drag you down with their immense sadness at being abandoned.
