It is not a particularly great movie, but it has a good story. A light comedy with an unusual love story within a very somber setting. Some parts are kind of different but expected considering the premise of the movie.
What really makes the movie, in my opinion, is the ending. The very last two lines make the whole movie worth it.
Out of context, the last lines are just words. But like life, you have to travel the journey to fully embrace/appreciate/accept the ending.
But when I love you, what do I love? It is not physical beauty nor temporal glory nor the brightness of light dear to earthly eyes, nor the sweet melodies of all kinds of songs, nor the gentle odour of flowers and ointments and perfumes, nor manna or honey, nor limbs welcoming the embraces of the flesh; it is not these I love when I love my God. Yet there is a light I love, and a food, and a kind of embrace when I love my God—a light, voice, odor, food, embrace of my inner man, where my soul is floodlit by light which space cannot contain, where there is a sound that time cannot seize, where there is a perfume which no breeze disperses, where there is a taste for food no amount of eating can lessen, and where there is a bond of union that no satiety can part. That is what I love when I love my God.
I popped open the hatch to try to make some minor adjustments to the WordPress theme I was using, and well, one thing lead to another. The old theme looked good but didn’t quite suit my simple needs. With an itch to tinker, I might as well scrap the whole thing and start fresh.
I am a Christian, and indeed a Roman Catholic, so that I do not expect “history” to be anything but a “long defeat”—though it contains some samples or glimpses of final victory.
