My two-and-a-half year old son smashed his thumb while closing the toy box lid. He came to me whimpering about how it hurt. I looked over his thumb intently like a doctor, and then gently kissed it. I softly asked, “All better?” He replied with a smile and a yes. And then he went back to playing.
In the gospels, nearly every page contains a description of Jesus touching someone and healing them. That is how He works. We are human. We need physical contact. We crave the loving touch of another person. That is one of the purposes for the Eucharist (also known as Communion). It is our chance to touch Jesus. And if we come in faith, true faith, we will be be healed.
