The last song on a beautiful, meditative/prayerful, instrumental CD called A Thin Silence by Jeff Johnson is this song/prayer.
Circle me, O God, let Your arms enfold me.
Circle me, O God, let Your love surround.
Circle me, O God, let Your light shine brightly.
Circle me…circle me, O God.Circle me, O God, when I’m weak and weary.
Circle me, O God, when despair is near.
Circle me, O God, let Your peace surround me.
Circle me…circle me, O God.Circle me, O God, when I’m tired and restless.
Circle me, O God, be my hope, my strength.
Circle me, O God, let Your presence guide me.
Circle me…circle me, O God.— Jeff Johnson
This song/prayer is a Lorica, a traditional Celtic prayer of protection. Lorica comes from Latin, and literally means “body armor”. It is also known as a breastplate prayer, of which St. Patrick’s is probably the most famous. For me, it is a fitting prayer to recite in the morning as one gets ready for the day, or in moments of weakness.
