At the risk of sounding pious, every morning when I first wake up, usually with my eyes still closed, I make a little sign of the cross on my forehead with my thumb and pray, “I’m Yours.” It reminds me of my Sacrament of Confirmation where Father traced the sign of the cross on my forehead with the Holy Oil of Chrism.
Everyday must be a re-commitment, a re-confirmation to follow Christ. Each day brings its struggles to choose to follow Christ or to follow the ways of the world. Some days are easier; some are not. And contrary to what our merit badge world says, it’s not about success or failure, win or lose. It is not even about spiritual success. It is about which direction you are facing, towards heaven or hell. Is your heart open to grace, open to God, to others, to yourself—open to love? Everyday?
